P. Nadine Yenkey, 84, died Tuesday, September 28, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital. Nadine was born on August 14, 1938, in Topeka to Gladys Neva and Albert Berline Yenkey. She was raised on the family farm south of Topeka and attended a single-room country school on her grandparent's nearby farm on SW 69th St. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1957. She worked as a secretary in the Kansas Department of Revenue until her retirement in 2003.
Nadine was a proud charter member of Countryside United Methodist Church. She shared her time with numerous youth-focused missions over the years, including her church's youth group. Her support for handicapped children led to years of volunteer service to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She was also a strong supporter of the Alzheimer's Foundation. Nadine was an avid baker, a passionate collector of Longaberber baskets and other crafts, and a regular at the card table and bingo games with her friends at Brewster Place Retirement Community. She was known for her quick wit and ornery sense of humor.
Nadine was preceded in death by her father, Albert, and her mother, Neva. She is survived by her brother, Norm Yenkey of Salina, and nieces and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 S.W. Burlingame Rd., on Friday, November 4, at 2 pm, with a reception to follow at the church.
In lieu of gifts, donations in Nadine's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation (https://alzfdn.org/) or the Muscular Dystrophy Association (https://mda.donordrive.com/).
