Oren E. Potter, Sr., 83, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at a local hospital.
Oren was born May 4, 1924 in Joshua, Texas, the son of Percy and Minnie (Seal) Potter. He grew up in the Joshua and Brandon, Texas area.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked for 38 years for Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1984 as Supervisor of Work Equipment of the Eastern Lines.
He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and the Santa Fe Old Timers.
Oren married Betty J. Sumrall on July 18, 1947 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include sons, Oren E. Potter, II, and wife Sue, Dalhart, TX, Bill Potter and wife, Barbara, Mesquite, TX; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the Caddo Cemetery in Joshua, Texas. Oren will lie in state at the Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Joshua from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of Topeka arrangements.
