Opal Maxwell, 83, of Topeka, passed away, Thursday, July 1, 2004.
She was born October 28, 1920 at Osage City, Kansas the daughter of Axel and Hilda Hedberg.
Opal retired following 41 years of service with the Santa Fe Railroad.
She was a member of Brookwood Covenant Church. She was also a member of Santa Fe Oldtimers and Group #10 Women's Group.
She was married to Joe Maxwell August 13, 1955 in Topeka. He preceded her in death August 16, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her nephew Wayne Burd. Survivors include: her sister, Helen Burd, Topeka; a stepson , 2 step grandsons, 3 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Maxwell will lie in state after 12:00 noon Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Brookwood Covenant Church, 3601 SW 33rd Street, Topeka, 66614 or Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 NW Rochester Road, Topeka, 66617.
