Norman E. Oberhelman, 73, Topeka, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at Midland Hospice Care.
Norman was born November 1, 1932 in Topeka, the son of Lyman J. and Ruby A. Storbeck Oberhelman. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1950.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Norman operated a Chicken farm in Maple Hill for many years. After retirement, he worked for Wal-Mart.
Norman is survived by his wife, Mary Jane. Other survivors include four daughters: Sandra Leidig and husband, Mark, Clay Center; Twila Schneider and husband, Frank, Topeka; Syndie Grant and husband, Duane, Bloomington, IL; and Melanie Oberhelman, Topeka: Sons: Wade Oberhelman and wife, Sophia, Arlington, TX; and Kent Oberhelman and wife, Edie, St. Peters, MO; Step-sons; Michael Beatty and wife, Gayle, Glendale, AZ and Mark Beatty and wife, Robin, Pflugerville, TX: 13 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; and a brother; Kenneth Oberhelman and wife, Cheri, Bella Vista, AR.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Grace United Methodist Church. Private family burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Oberhelman will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 P.M. on Monday and visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
