Norma Lee (Collins) Sikes, 90, Topeka, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017.
She was born January 12, 1927, in Sedalia, Missouri, the daughter of Lewis Bert and Della Mae (Andrews) Collins. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1945 and in 1949 graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Washburn University. While attending Washburn she was a member of the honorary scholastic fraternity, Tau Delta Pi (Phi Kappa Phi) and Alpha Phi Sorority.
On February 14, 1947, she married Mischa E. Sikes in Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Norma taught at Meriden High School from 1949 until 1951. Later, she became a legal secretary for 5 years, before joining Mischa in the family owned business, Collins Drive In and Collins Carry Out from 1956 until 1978. She then returned to teaching in Topeka 501 Schools for 10 years, retiring in 1988.
Norma was a member of First Baptist Church and Topeka Area Retired School Personnel (TARSP). She was a former member of Topeka Round-Up Club and the Topeka Women's Golf Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelley Sikes Baker and husband, Steven, Prairie Village, KS and Lorie Sikes Dutzman and husband, Carl, Nokesville, VA; two grandsons, Andrew Baker and wife, Lindsay, Overland Park, KS and Colin Baker, Chicago, IL; one great-granddaughter, Amelia Mae Baker, Overland Park, KS and very special friend, William "Bill" Clark, Topeka, KS.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel. Private inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
