Nelson E. "Gene" Steenbock
Gene completed his journey home to glory on Sunday, October 15, 2006.
Gene was born on March 31, 1926, the son of Henry and Mildred Steenbock at Sylvan Grove, Kansas.
Gene married Beulah Crable on November 20, 1944. She survives.
He graduated from Highland Park High School. He served his country during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Kansas National Guard 174th M.P. Batt. He completed his work career after 28 years with the AT&Santa Fe Railway. He belonged to the Boilermakers & Blacksmiths Local No. 34.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, daughter and his parents. He is survived by a son, Gary Steenbock and his wife, Georgianna, Topeka; daughters, Carol Fusaro and her husband, Stefano, Topeka, Sharol Couch, Topeka, Joyce Allen and her husband, Paul, Topeka; grandchildren, Scott and Stacie Steenbock, Jeremy and Jessica Couch, Michael Allen and his wife, Ashley, L'Erin Allen, Kristin Kelly, Steve and Cheyenne Fusaro all of Topeka; foreign exchange grandson, Gerardo Olivares and his wife, Karla, Wichita; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Kristopher, Rebecca and Karissa Steenbock and Amelia Allen; a brother, Dale and his wife, Betty, Baldwin City, a sister, Doris Ferren, Eldorado; sister-in-law, Ivajean Crable, Chandler, AZ; five nieces, nine nephews and his favorite four legged friend, Socks.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Gene will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
