Nelson B. Baker, 68, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, August 23 2017 after an extended illness.
He was born June 13, 1949 in Topeka, the son of Horace and Jessie Baker.
Nelson attended Sunflower Supports Day Program where he loved doing crafts, fishing, gardening, shredding paper, Karaoke, putting the American flag out and in every day with a salute. Also Special Olympics bowling, Topeka Zoo, Petland, Humane Society, Bark Park and going to the Casino.
Nelson delivered Meals-On-Wheels and had his own route. He helped on a crew to clean up two parks through Shawnee County Park & Recreation. He attended First Lutheran Church, Lunch Bunch, Brown Bag Lunch, Dance House, once a month and Cappers' beach ball swimming.
Nelson was a friendly, polite, helpful, happy guy with good manners. He was a past member of the SW YMCA and a present member of Genesis Health Club where he will be missed.
He loved to listen to music, especially oldies and to watch TV Land.
Until his retirement Nelson worked many years at TARC Industries in the work center. He spent several years living in a group home at Sheltered Living Inc., then changed his residency and day activities in 1999 to Sunflower Supports Co. until his death.
Nelson was blessed with a big family at Sunflower Supports Co. and his guardian and her family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Bud Baker and Gerald Baker; sisters, Shirley Frye and Bernice Frost.
He is survived by his brothers Gene Baker, Bethany, OK; Dennis Baker, Topeka, KS; and sister Dixie Bailey, Topeka, KS.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 28, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, 1234 SW. Fairlawn Rd., Topeka, KS 66604, where the family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Ozawkie Cemetery.
