Nels Peterson

Nels Peterson, 95, of Topeka, passed away May 29, 2008 at his home. He was born April 16, 1913, the son of Carl J., Sr. and Olivia (Anderson) Peterson.

On August 16, 1947 he married Theresa Quaney at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church in Topeka. She preceded him in death on May 24, 1989 after 41 years of marriage. He was a rural postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1977. Nels was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of Topeka North Post 400 and a life member of NARFE.

Survivors include, a nephew, James (Taunya) Siebert; a niece, Mary Jo (Ralph) Eynard; and special friends and caregivers who fulfilled his wishes of enjoying his home until the end.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Memorial contributions in Nels' name may be made to the donor's choice.
