Nels F. Baatrup, Jr., passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010.
Nels was born in September 20, 1956 in Topeka; son of Nels and Pauline (Robinson) Baatrup. He graduated from Washburn Rural Schools in 1975. Nels enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1977. Nels married Connie Pratt on January 21, 1978, at Countryside United Methodist Church, Topeka. They were married for 31 years. Nels was a carpenter for K.N.I. and D.L. Smith.
Nels was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #4319 and the Topeka Dart Association. His favorite pastimes included camping and darts.
Survivors include his two sons, Nick and Matt Baatrup, of Topeka; grandson, Brandon Baatrup; four sisters, Yuvon Braden, Carbondale; Janine Paige, Lawrence; Christie White, Topeka; and Laura Baatrup, Topeka; brother, Edmond Baatrup, Peabody; father and mother-in-law, A.J. and Dixie Pratt, Topeka; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka 66604. Private inurnment will be at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka 66604-4020.
