Nellie May Rathke

Nellie Guffin (Wheeler) Rathke, 89, of Walton, KS passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018.

She was born December 29, 1928 in Emmet, Idaho to William and Bessie (La Grande) Guffin. In 1936, the Guffin family moved to Mankato, Kansas where Nellie became a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Nellie married Wesley Mack Wheeler in 1949 and raised three sons in Topeka, Kansas. Wes preceded her in death July 18, 1981.

In 1982, Nellie married Leo Lorence Rathke and moved to Emporia. She joined the Lutheran Church and was blessed to add his four children to her family. Leo preceded her in death December 5, 2004.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.

Survivors include: Tony (Linda) Wheeler, Mark (Shirley) Wheeler, and Lance Wheeler; Teresa (Bruce) Clark, Leo Junior Rathke, Melody (Jeff) Nemmers, and Michael (Kendra) Rathke; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Survivors also include siblings, Walter, Sandra, David, and Charisse.

Family will greet friends Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave. Topeka, KS 66604. Graveside Service will be 11:00 am., Monday, October 29, 2018 at the West Lawn Memorial Gardens, 820 S.W. Auburn Road, Topeka.
