Nancy Shell Hurd, 81, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday August 4, 2010.
She was born July 31, 1929 in Topeka the daughter of Earl and Frances Shell. She was a 1947 graduate of Topeka High School and attended Washburn University. While at Washburn she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
Nancy was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral, the Junior League of Topeka, a board member of the Crittenton Home and Mulvane Art Museum. She worked for the Kansas Legislature and retired from the Shawnee County Election Office in 1994.
She married Bruce Hurd August 11, 1951. He preceded her in death February 20, 1996. Survivors include her daughter, Francie Herman, Topeka; her sister, Cynny Shell Oualline, Houston, TX; her grandchildren, Alex, Carly and Maddie Herman all of Hays and Zach Jeffries of Topeka.
Cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday August 6, 2010 in St. Mary's Chapel at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Memorial contributions may be given to Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW 8th Street, Topeka 66603 or Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Cr., Topeka, 66606.
