Nancy Ann Jennings-Pressley, 78, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Peggy Kelly House. She was born on July 11, 1932 in Bristow, Oklahoma to John L. and Charlie Estelle (Hooper) Stucker.
Nancy knew from an early age that she wanted to be a teacher, she would play "school" with the cousins and friends. She graduated from Norman High School in Norman, OK in 1950. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1956 with a Bachelors degree in Education. Later, in 1972 she received her Masters in Education from Washburn University. Nancy stayed home to raise her children until they were in school, and then returned to her first love teaching. She taught at Whitson Elementary, later she was a Chapter 1 reading specialist at Silver Lake and Delia. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Nancy gave back to the community by serving as a proud member as well as holding offices with the American Association of University Women, Alpha Phi, Daughters of the Revolution, PEO, Woman's Club, Valencia Extension Office, Alpha Delta Kappa, Potpourri, Volunteer at Topeka Performing Arts, Volunteer Reader at Meadows School and numerous bridge organizations. Nancy was an avid gardener, seamstress and tireless volunteer. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Nancy is survived by her husband Larry L. Pressley; her daughters, Jan (Darryl) Jennings, Catherine (Stephen) Hodge, Kansas City, MO and Elizabeth (Steve) Clemmensen; five grandchildren, John (Laura)Hackman, Charlie (Jason) Warren, Emily Hackman, Sierra Pineda and C.J. Pineda and one great grandchild, Hendrix Warren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerald L. Jennings.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery will follow after a light reception at the church. Nancy will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
