Myrtle Whiteside

November 15, 1923 — August 21, 2013

Myrtle "Myrt" Elizabeth (Ogan) (Seetin) Whiteside died August 21, 2013 at a medical facility in Granbury, Texas.

Myrtle Elizabeth Ogan was born in Topeka on November 15, 1923 to Ira S. and Helen (Fraser) Ogan. She married Charles Seetin in 1946 and they had three children. Charlie died in 1965. Myrtle married John Whiteside in 1970 and he died in 1994. She was an R.N., worked with Charlie running his business, and later retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas.

Myrt was preceded in death by her brothers Dean and Marc, and sisters Alice and Margaret. She is survived by her loving children, Jeanne (Giancarlo) Gaggero, Charlotte (John) Brooks and Phil (Christie) Seetin. Other survivors include her brother Bill of Honolulu; eight grandchildren, Treye Ransier, Jason Ransier, Blaine Ransier, Adrian Ransier, Julie Downes, Beth Cole, Travis Seetin and Jayme Seetin; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She loved her family and friends and particularly enjoyed having get-togethers with them all at the "farm". She also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, traveling, watching wildlife and the Kansas State Wildcats. Not all at the same time and not necessarily in that order.

A celebration of Myrtle's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th, Topeka. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Myrtle's family asks that contributions be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
