Muriel Jean (Becky) Spencer, 83, passed away on December 4th, after a short stay at Midland Hospice House.
Born in Topeka, KS, on March 19, 1925, she lived her entire life in Topeka. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1943 and from Kansas State University in 1947 with a BS degree in Home Economics.
Becky married G.M. (Bud) Spencer on May 18, 1946, in Topeka, KS. They had a good life together, raising 4 wonderful children, keeping active at Trinity Presbyterian Church, staying involved in many community organizations, and taking many great trips together.
Becky was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, CS Chapter of P.E.O., Lady Luck Investment club, Topeka Home Economics in Homemaking, past President of the Topeka Panhellenic Association, and a lifetime member of the KSU Alumni Association. She and her husband, Bud, were charter members and past Co-Presidents of the Kaw Valley Catbackers.
One of the greatest loves in her life was children. She was a devoted mother and enjoyed the years she spent raising her children. She was a teacher at McClure Elementary and Community Preschool. She also loved to travel, play bridge with her friends, play golf, attend K-State Football games and swim in her pool.
She was preceded in death by her son, Brad Spencer, of Missouri; and her parents, Ruby and Ed Ernest, and Golden and Helen Becker.
She is survived by her husband, Bud, and 3 children; Bev Diaz (Gary), of Colorado Springs, CO., Barbara King (John) of Orlando, FL, and Doug Spencer (Laurie) of Orlando, FL.
She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Neal Spencer (Cora) of Topeka, KS., Janelle Williamson (Keith), of Topeka, KS., Brian King (Kirsten) of Orlando, FL, Tony King (Kelly) of Orlando, FL., Scott King (Krista) of Orlando, FL., and 4 great-grandchildren; Elsie Spencer, Layla Spencer, Bradley Williamson, and Madison King.
Mrs. Spencer will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Monday, Dec. 8th at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9th at 1:00PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at the church, starting at noon, prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
