Muriel V. Holdefer, 92, Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, November 28th, 2007. She was born November 28, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Joel and Irene (Kashel) Prentice. Muriel was a drama major at Roosevelt University in Chicago.
She married William L. Holdefer on December 26, 1941. Together they owned and operated the Holdefer Catering Service - serving the Topeka area from 1947 until 1958. Muriel later worked for the State of Kansas for 17 years, retiring in 1984. Muriel was a member of the Potwin Presbyterian Church, the Topeka Flower Lovers, the local Democrat Party, and the Jeffersonian Club.
Muriel was proceeded in death by William on December 21, 1959; and two daughters, Ella Victoria and an infant daughter; two sisters, Diane Hackett and Marjorie Kaczmarek. She is survived by a brother, Corwin Prentice, Palm Springs, CA; and two grandsons, Sean Rowley, Topeka, and Ian Rowley, Wichita; and two great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces and nephews in Chicago.
Funeral services will be on Monday, December 3, 2007, at 9 am at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Muriel will lie in state after 1 pm on Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, with visitation from 2 - 4 pm.
