Muriel Ilene Armstrong, 92, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014.
She was born September 29, 1922, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Lena (Anderson) Marlow. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1940.
She worked for Western Union, until 1943, the Supply Depot until the end of World War II, and the Secretary of State's office until 1952. She later worked as a seamstress and was a homemaker.
Muriel was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary and Women of the Moose Lodge.
She married Walter Leon Armstrong on February 7, 1942 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2007. She was also preceded in death by three siblings.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail Olson and Denise Benteman and her husband Randal, all of Topeka; four grandchildren, Lindsay Olson, Lauren Fager and her husband, Richard, all of Topeka; Dustin Benteman, Emporia; and Michele Rakestraw and her husband, Jared, Topeka and three great-granddaughters, Dillyn, Reese and Carley Fager.
In her younger years, Muriel enjoyed sailing and archery. Later she enjoyed cooking, sewing, ballroom dancing and spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Mount Hope Chapel. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
