Mozell F. Schulz, 79, of Topeka, passed away Wed., Dec. 31, 2008 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. She was born May 28, 1929 in Cold Springs, OK, the daughter of Carrol and Lona (Brannon) Jackson.
She was born and raised in Southwest Oklahoma in a family of four brothers and five sisters. She attended consolidated #8 school from grades 1-12. After receiving her Bachelor's of Arts Degree from Friends University and her Master's of Science and Education from The University of Kansas, she began her teaching career at Northbranch, KS, where she taught for 3 years. Mrs. Schulz moved to Topeka and taught elementary school for USD 501 for 35 years, retiring in 1989. On Aug. 11, 1967, she married Julius R. Schulz in Topeka. She was a member of Countryside United Methodist Church and a past member of Friends Church. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority.
Survivors include her husband, Julius, of the home; a son, Kenneth Lee Schulz; a brother, William Jackson; three sisters, Maxine Rhodes, Eva Jean Hays and Leta Faye Walkemeyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Aaron, Leo and LaVern Jackson; and two sisters, Blanche Caskey and Marie Courtney.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Mon., Jan. 5 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Schulz will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. on Sun., Jan. 4, with visitation from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. all at the funeral home.
