Monique Zamrzla, 47, Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Colmery-O'Neil Veterans Hospital.
Monique was born January 5, 1963 in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Don and Alice (Benson) McManaman. She graduated from Clay Center High School and Ft. Hays State with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing in 1987.
Upon graduation, she joined the U.S. Army and served four years as a nurse. She became disabled while serving in the Army and moved to Topeka in 1991.
Monique was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Army Nurses Association, Alumni Association at Ft. Hays State; and a past volunteer at the Marian Clinic and Birthright Topeka.
Monique married Jeffrey Zamrzla on April 27, 1996 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include their daughter, Elise Zamrzla; her father, Don and his wife, Paula, Clay Center; brothers, Chris McManaman, Topeka, Mike McManaman, Dallas, TX, Mark McManaman, Clay Center, and Jeffrey McManaman, Topeka. She was preceded in death by her mother; and uncle, Donald Benson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will be held with military honors at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Monique will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday with visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m.
