Monica L. Hernandez, 65, Hoyt, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014.
Monica was born October 18, 1948 in Topeka, the daughter of Louis Chavez and Frances Mullinix. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1966 and attended Highland Community College.
She was employed as a Secretary at Topeka State Hospital and other agencies in the State of Kansas for over 38 years, retiring in 2002.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
She was a sports enthusiast and supported her children and grandchildren in baseball, basketball, football, volleyball and racing.
Monica married James "Jimmy" Hernandez on February 11, 1967 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include son, Jimmy Hernandez, Jr, Topeka; daughters, Francesca "Chessie" House, Silver Lake, Anna Hernandez, Topeka; grandchildren, Austin Ogden, Brooke, Brett, and Jonathan House; brother, Walter Mullinix, Jr; and sister, Irene Rice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hoyt. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Visitation will follow the rosary until 8:00 p.m.
