Topeka Kansas Mollie Burns Hammond Searcy Mollie went to meet Jesus on April 8th 2025. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, under the care of Midland Hospice and her daughter Venita Sanderson and son in law Robin Sanderson.
Mollie was born in the small community of Gerster, Missouri on March 29th,1931 to Charles and Stella Burns. Mollie graduated from Manuel High School in 1948. She then went to work for Southwestern Bell telephone company. In 1949 Mollie married Twain Hammond. They had two children the lord gave her to raise on this earth, Twain and Venita, and one heavenly child lost before birth, Amanda Blake. Mollie helped her husband through medical school while working and raising their two children. In 1964 Dr. Twain Hammond passed away leaving Mollie a widow raising her two children.
While still working for Southwestern Bell, Mollie met Kenneth Searcy, an electronic technician for Southwestern Bell. They married in 1970. This added Kenneth’s two sons, Kenny and Larry, to Mollie’s family. Together Kenneth and Mollie enjoyed their children, grandchildren and showing award winning beagles in dog trials. Kenneth passed away unexpectedly in 1978.
Mollie moved in with her daughter and son in law after becoming a widow for the second time. This gave her time to spend with her grandkids and travel the world.
Mollie was always an active member in her church, holding various positions through the years. Mollie was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, two husbands and one daughter.
She is survived by her sister, Mildred Ringhausen (Dwight), her brother in law Blanton Hammond, sister in law Karen Hammond, sister in law Ruth Hammond, son Twain Hammond (Don), daughter Venita Sanderson (Robin), granddaughter Chalise Tiffany (David), grandson Cyril Edwin Sanderson II (Rochelle), five great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, along with twenty-three nieces and nephew.
Internment will be held at Kings Prairie Cemetery. She has requested cremation.
A small remembrance will be held with immediate family only. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice and The Woods at Wanamaker.
