Minnie I. (Wolverton) Gunselman

Minnie I. (Wolverton) Gunselman, 97, passed away January 25, 2007, at Plaza West Regional Health Center in Topeka. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10, at 1:00 p.m., Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel. Interment will take place at the Valley of the Sun Memorial Park Cemetery in Chandler, Arizona, at a later date. Minnie was born June 16, 1909, at Netawaka, Kansas to Ed and Emma (Niehaus) Tunis. She attended schools there, graduating from Netawaka High School in 1927. On November 21, 1928 she was married to Noel F. Wolverton. He died on January 27, 1945, in Topeka. Minnie continued to reside there and raise her three daughters in the Highland Park community. She was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church. Minnie was employed by the State of Kansas for 22 years before retiring from the School Retirement Board in 1967. She married Lee Gunselman on June 2, 1967, in Topeka. They moved to Mesa, Arizona, where they enjoyed living for many years and were members of the Velda Rose United Methodist Church. In 1992, they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with family and friends. After Lees death on January 16, 1993, Minnie returned to Topeka to make her home near her family. In June 2004, she was honored for her 75 years of membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #287, in Whiting, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and infant daughter, Regina Marilyn Wolverton, and special friends, Audrey Gunselman and Celestine Evans. Survivors include her daughters, Emily Denney, Arcadia, Calif.; Judie Myers and husband, Don, Wichita, Kansas; Jane Westfall and husband, Roy; step-daughter Joyce Wentworth; sister, Eva M. Wood, all of Topeka; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Minnie will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
