Milton Louis Benteman, 93, Topeka, Kansas passed away Monday November 18th, 2024 at his home in Topeka, Kansas. He was born August 31st, 1931 in Frankfort, Kansas to Fritz and Erma (Kipp) Benteman and grew up in Frankfort, Kansas. Milton was one of 14 children that blessed the family. As a teenager he worked at various jobs to help the family. He enjoyed working at the roller-skating rink and the family run gas station in Frankfort. He joined the Kansas National Guard in Marysville and later transferred to Topeka in 1949. While in National Guard Milton assisted with recovery efforts of the 1951 flood. Milton worked for Firestone Tires and several other odd jobs until he was hired as a bus driver for the City of Topeka Metro Bus company where he worked for 30 years. When Milton retired, he enjoyed working at local auctions and scraping metal as a hobby. He loved riding motorcycles and took many trips all over the United States and parts of Canada. He rode his motorcycle until he was 89. He married Colleen Smith of Beattie, Kansas in 1952. They had a son Randal Milton Benteman in 1956. They later divorced. In the 1960’s Milton married Lola Adams. They later divorced having had no children. On November 20th, 1982, Milton married Kathleen (Down) Waisner and Milton helped raised her son Christopher L. Waisner. They remained married until his death.
Milton loved his family. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, son Randal M. Benteman (Denise) grandson Dustin Benteman (Amanda), granddaughter Michele (Jared) Rakestraw, great grandchildren Ryker and Brexli Rakestraw and Parker and Brooklyn Benteman, step son Christopher Waisner and his daughter Taylor Rose Gifford stepdaughter Crystal Kitchengs and her sons Tyler and Evan. Milton’s sisters Mabel (Bill) Beem, Martha Mullins and sister-in-law Ann Benteman. Preceding him in death are his parents Fritz and Erma Benteman, brothers Joe, Jimmy, Norman, Fritz Jr. (Dutch), Frank, Lee, and George Benteman. Sisters Erma Mondt, Susie Parmentier, Bertha Epperson, and Florence Kennedy.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends on November 26th, 2024 at the Pepper Tree Clubhouse 73 Pepper Tree Ln, Topeka, Kansas from 11AM to 2PM. Burial will take place in Topeka later.
