Mildred Ward

Mildred D. Ward, 86, Arlington, TX, formerly of Topeka, passed away Saturday, April 23 at Baylor All Saints Medical Center in Ft. Worth.

She was born August 7, 1918 in Netawaka, the third of four daughters of Claude and Iva Sauers McKellips.

Mildred worked at the Methodist Home as an aide and later transferred to Eventide Convalescent Center. She did volunteer work in the Beauty Shop and also worked as an aide at night. She retired at age 62.

She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and pianist until 1994. Following the death of her husband, she volunteered for Meals On Wheels and also taught the illiterate to read in her home. She moved to Arlington, TX in 1996, where she was a member of South Oaks Baptist Church. She loved flowers, children, animals, Kansas grown Jonathon apples and popcorn. She had a wonderful sense of humor and her loving smile will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

She married Raymond Ward, October 17, 1936 in Corning. He died September 27, 1985. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Fern Ratliff, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Coleen Ickard, Iva Jane Mueller, and Tena Ward all of Arlington, TX and Karen Fontaine, Ft. Worth, TX ; 21 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren; two sisters Claudene Thompson, Topeka and Marcenia Simmons, Pasadena, MD.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 29 at Trinity Baptist Church, 2046 SE California Ave. Topeka, Kansas 66607. Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Thursday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.
