Mildred Irene Stone, 91, Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Brewster Place.
Mildred was born January 19, 1926 in Haddam, the daughter of Elmer Ray and Maude Iva (Koehl) Stone.
She attended grade and high schools in Washington & Cloud Counties and graduated from Clyde High School in 1943. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Emporia State University. Mildred began her teaching career in one room schools in Washington County and continued teaching in several elementary schools in Topeka. She retired from teaching in May of 1991, after teaching from 1952-1991 in the Topeka Public School System.
She was very active in the First Christian Church, having served on various local and state committees. Mildred traveled extensively throughout the United States and to several foreign countries.
Mildred is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marvene Marshall; brothers, Elmer and Laverne Stone, nephew, Gordon Marshall; and great-nephews, William Smith and Timmy Stone.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Washington County, KS.
