Mildred Rosetta Albers, age 88 of Topeka, passed away in her home on Thursday, June 25, 2009.
Mildred was born January 7, 1921 in Bendena, KS to William C. and Myrtle R. (Hackney) Albers in Bendena, KS. She earned a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Emporia State University and retired from the Topeka 501 School district after 44 years of service. Mildred was a the member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Buelah Chapter, the Women's Club of Topeka, Topeka Area Retired teacher's Association, a lifetime member of the National Education Association, Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Sorority, Sons and daughters of Kansas, and she was a parishioner at First Lutheran Church in Topeka. In her spare time, Mildred enjoyed playing Bridge, reading, and traveling. She had traveled extensively on every continent except Antarctica, all the states in the U.S., and had sailed all the oceans of the world.
Mildred is survived by nine nieces and nephews, sixteen great nieces and nephews, twenty great great nieces and nephews, and one great great great nephew. She is preceded in death by three sisters; Elva Reder, Merle McNemee and Vera Blevins, a brother, Herbert W. Albers, and a nephew Marvin Reder.
Mildred will lie in state after 2:00, Sunday, June 28th, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, 11:00 am, at First Lutheran Church in Topeka where Pastor Henry Liskey will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be at 2:30 at Moray Cemetery in Bendena, KS. Pastor Bill Noble of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bendena will officiate at graveside. Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church in Topeka, or to the Moray Cemetery Fund in Moray, KS.
