Mildred R. Prince, who celebrated her 100th birthday this past January, died at Spring Mill Meadows Nursing Home in Indianapolis, IN, on Wednesday, June 09, 2010.
Mrs. Prince spent most of her life in Kansas. She was born Jan. 12, 1910, in Osborne County, KS, the daughter of Arthur Applegate and Frances Ella Knapp Applegate. She was the youngest of 13 children. When her father died, she and her mother moved to Salina, KS, where she attended grade and high school and Kansas Wesleyan University.
She married Samuel L. Robinson in 1932. He died seven years later.
Mrs. Prince worked for the federal government in Washington D.C. for three years. She then transferred to Camp Phillips in Salina, KS, and then to the Topeka Veterans Administration Hospital.
She married Roy F. Prince in 1946. He died in 1960 in Tampa, FL. Returning to Topeka, she worked for the State of Kansas Employment Security Division from 1960 to 1975, when she retired.
Mrs. Prince was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Topeka for many years, serving as a member of the Women's Circle, the church choir, and president of the American Baptist Women's Assn. Among her other contributions, she called on Topeka shut-ins for many years.
Mrs. Prince's brothers and sisters, many of whom lived and farmed their entire careers in Osborne County, all preceded her in death. Nieces and nephews survive. Dogs also were her passion in life, and she "spoiled" and loved more than 10 dogs from childhood until her death. Fittingly, Mrs. Prince is survived by Rosie, her beloved Bichon.
