Mildred Pratt

Mildred Lang Pratt passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2007. She was born November 20, 1913 in Chadwick, Illinois to Clarence and Edna Honberger Lang.

She graduated from Chadwick High School. Mildred attended Illinois Masonic Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois and became a registered nurse. She recalls taking care of Chicago Cubs baseball players during her training in Chicago. She did post-graduate training at The Menninger School of Psychiatric Nursing where she was a psychiatric nurse for over 30 years; 25 of those years as a nursing supervisor. She was truly a pioneer in psychiatric nursing. Mildred also attended Washburn University.

Mildred Lang and James "Red" Pratt were married July 3, 1941. To that marriage, two daughters were born, Rebecca Pratt Trippeer (Robert) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Beth Pratt of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Red preceded her in death in September 2000.

Mrs. Pratt was a member of Central Congregational Church and participated in the Central Women's Group. Mildred was an avid bridge player and attained Master Status. She was a member of The Hilltopers (a Menninger Clinic Retired Group). She loved sports, especially her favorite baseball team, the Cubs.

Survivors include her daughters; a brother, Delmar Lang of Lanark, Illinois; sisters Beth Rodermel (Bill) of Beloit, Wisconsin, Jeanette Muller (Marvin) of Winnebago, Illinois, and Carol Wolf (Gene) of Ridott, Illinois. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Kristin Trippeer, Karena Pirtle, and twins Kyle and Kari Trippeer. Also surviving are the "lights of her life", her five great grandchildren; Heylee, Kellie, Kaleb, and twins Ashley and Alexis. She was also preceded in death by brothers; Clyde Lang, and Emmerson Lang; and a sister Marian Brandenburg.

Memorials may be sent to Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Central Congregational Church, Topeka or Topeka Rescue Mission.

Visitation for Mrs. Pratt will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with burial to follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
