Mildred L. Pape, 81, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 surrounded by her family.
She was born October, 1, 1935 in Dodge City, KS, the daughter of George and Bertha Smith.
Mildred was a 1954 graduate of Topeka High School and was employed by the State of Kansas as a secretary for several departments from 1956 until 1998. She retired as Personal Secretary to Chief Justice Kay McFarland.
She was an avid outdoors person who loved to fish, boat and camp with her family. Her love of creating included egg shell carving and decorating, making beautiful quilts for family, friends and for donation to children's organizations. She also designed and built beautiful ponds surrounded by a colorful flowering landscape. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Carl, her twin sister and her husband, John.
She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Topeka and Jesus was the Lord and Saviour of her life. She practiced her faith through avid Bible reading.
Mildred married Carl L. Pape on September 29, 1954 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2015.
Survivors include her son, Michael Pape; three daughters, Susan Neff (Wayne), Carla McInteer (Chris) and Barbara Feltner (Mark); sister, Eldora Helton; a brother, Robert Smith and her twin sister, Shirley Wilmsmeyer; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Mt. Hope Chapel, 4700 SW. 17th St., Topeka. Private entombment of her cremated remains will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in the Old Abbey Chapel.
