Mildred E. Gabler, 88, of Topeka, KS, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012.
Mildred was born August 12, 1923, in Burlingame, KS, daughter of Earl and Mary (Mader) Mast. She graduated from Burlingame High School and attended Kansas State University. For three years, Mildred taught eight grades in a one room school house for Osage County Public School Systems. She then went to work at Santa Fe, retiring after 37 years of service as Personnel Supervisor in the accounting department.
Mildred married Alfred "Al" Gabler on July 6, 1947. She was a member of BNSF Women's Club, Western Hills Ladies Golf Association, and honorary member of Kansas Women's Golf Association.
Mildred is survived by her nieces, Sharon (Virgil) Crook, Arvada, CO; Jane (Lou) Hafner, Tecumseh, KS; Mary Jo (Allen)King, Westcliffe, CO; and Karla (Bob) Hatfield, Priest River, ID; and nephew, Bill (Kathy) Mills, Denver, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Robert and George Mast, and sister, Helen Kimble.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. May 24, 2012, at Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel, Topeka. Entombment will follow in the Mount Hope Mausoleum. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
