Mildred was born January 26, 1910 in Home, Kansas, the daughter of Jonathan and Ottilie Hahn Lewis. Mildred had four sisters and two brothers, all of which preceded her in death. She graduated from Beattie High School, taught school three years at Midway and Whiteway schools, and was employed by the U.S. Government for 20 years. Mildred was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Topeka.

Mildred was an avid traveler in the 60s and 70s. She was lucky enough to take trips from the gold coast of Australia to Lapland and many countries in between. Mildred will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Those who were fortunate to be close to her knew Mildred to be caring, good-natured, and always ready with a kind word and a smile. Mildred's joys included being with her family and friends, playing bingok canasta and skip-bo, traveling, teaching, learning about new things, climbing Pike's Peak, butterflies, reading, and daily walks.
