Mildred Geraldine Brewer

May 10, 1936 — November 30, 2024

Mildred Geraldine Brewer, 88, of Overbrook, passed away on November 30, 2024.

She was born on May 10, 1936, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Arbelle Harris.

As a child, Mildred enjoyed school and being with her friends and family. Mildred went to Mill Creek High School where she graduated with honors. After high school she moved to Topeka where she went to work for the civil service, where she was head secretary for the colonel at Forbes Air Force Base until it closed.

On October 4, 1957, she married Raymond E. Brewer in Topeka, Kansas. Together they raised 2 children in Topeka, Kansas, Donald and Douglas Brewer.

Mildred later worked for the National Weather Service. During her time there she served as the executive secretary to the meteorologist-in-charge until she retired in the early 1990’s.

Mildred will be remembered for being a great cook and a loving mother and wife. Mildred was a member of Shawnee Heights Baptist Church for many years and was passionate about Bible study. Throughout her life she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, picture and crossword puzzles, and gardening. Mickey was a talented painter, and she and Raymond frequently enjoyed going out dancing. Among all of this, though, her main joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Raymond E. Brewer, and mother, Arbelle E. Dowell.

Mildred is survived by her loving sons, Donald (spouse Becky) and Douglas (spouse Rebecca), her brothers Lee (spouse Pam) and Jim (spouse Christi), five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

On May 30, 2013, Mildred married Elton Decker of Lyndon, Kansas, where she and Elton resided until his passing on May 15, 2019. Mildred is survived by Elton’s loving children, Terry Herdlicka (companion Harmon), Dana McNabb (spouse John), Andrew, and Danny (spouse Laurie), eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
