Mildred J. Baker, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013.
Mildred was born May 29, 1932, in Eau Claire, WI, daughter of Jacob Charles Johnson and Hazel Mildred (Vefald) Johnson.
She graduated from Luther Hospital School of Nursing, Eau Claire, WI. Mildred practiced and taught nursing for over fifty years. She retired from the Senior Diagnostic Unit at Stormont-Vail. She won numerous awards for excellence in nursing and volunteerism throughout her career.
Mildred was united in marriage to Lyle Baker on November 13, 1953. He survives of the home.
She is also survived by her children, Steve Baker, Topeka, Kris (Robert) Palmer, Las Vegas, NV, and Karin Baker, Topeka; grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah) Wilson, Jill Wilson, Erin Finlay, and Kaitie Baker; great grandchildren, Kylie, Max, and Kenadie; two sisters, Beverly (Larry) Olson, Eau Claire, WI, and Marylin Howard, Eau Claire, WI; and brother, Thomas (Sandy) Johnson, Eau Claire, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Richard and Gerald Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at First Lutheran Church, 1234 Fairlawn Rd., Topeka, with interment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2013, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th St., Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church.
