Michael A. "Mike" Higgs, 65, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021.
He was born October 27, 1955, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of William and Evelyn (Lytton) Higgs. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School and went on to attend Lee Community College.
Mike was a simple man. He absolutely loved to fish and ride motorcycles. He and his wife, Sally, loved to ride their Harley to wherever it took them. He was a long time member of the H.O.G. riding club of Harley-Davidson.
Mike was a family man. He was very involved in the lives of his children. There wasn't an event he'd miss. He was a huge supporter of their sports and extracurricular activities.
Mike was committed to his job. He was the Maintenance Supervisor at Southwest Publishing since 2001. He enjoyed working with his work family and was committed to making the atmosphere positive.
Michael married Sally E. Merrill on September 1, 2014-, she survives. Other survivors include his step-children, Charlotte Merrill, Dennis Merrill, Dillazon Merrill, and Maliah Merrill; nephews, Brian and Mark Higgs and great-nephew and niece, Blake and Rylee. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Higgs.
Mike will lie in state from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Penwell-Gabel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
