Michael Stuart Shiflett,70, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023, after a short illness at Stormont Vail Hospital.
Mike was born (Wolf-Dieter Schetelig) on March 10, 1953, in Heidelberg, Germany. He was adopted on November 18th, 1954 by American soldier Master Sergeant Winfield Stuart Shiflett and Austrian native Elfriede Gailer Shiflett after biting his new father on the nose. They later settled in Junction City, Kansas.
Mike graduated from Junction City High School in 1971. He graduated from Manhattan Christian College with a degree in Christian Service in 1975 and worked for the college for a time. He was employed at Gary Hardy and Briggs Dodge for 30 years and later worked for the Kansas Neurological Institute. He retired in December of 2022.
Mike was an active member of Town and Country Christian Church, and SPEBSQSA since 1986 when his family settled in Topeka. He served the community by volunteering for Harvesters and the Topeka Rescue Mission before and after retirement.
Michael is survived by his Special Friend Sharon Nixon, ex-wife Nyla Suffron, Daughter-in-law Kandi Van Aalst and grandchildren Kaleb Segelquist and Jasmine Shiflett-Van Aalst, Son Adam Shiflett Daughter-in-law Katie Shiflett and grandchildren Caden and Collin McGee and Rylynn Shiflett, Son Matt Shiflett and granddaughter Finley Leiker, Daughter Melissa Jacobia and Son-in-law Matthew Jacobia, Daughter Emily Linton Son-in-law Andrew Linton and granddaughters Madelyn and Ella Linton.
He was preceded in death by Father Winfield Stuart Shiflett, Mother Elfriede Shiflett, and Son Darren Shiflett.
