Michael John Bera, Jr., 65, Topeka, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at his residence.
Michael was born on April 30, 1943, in Fremont, NE, the son of Michael J. and Edith (Asche) Bera.
Mr. Bera served in the U.S. Marines during the Viet Nam War.
He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1973 from the University of Missouri at St. Louis.
Michael worked as a certified x-ray technician for many years and substitute taught in Topeka area schools and St. Louis.
Mr. Bera was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church from 1992-1997 and Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church from 1998 to the present.
Michael belonged to the St. Dominic's Singles Organization and the Social Justice Committee.
He volunteered for St. Francis Medical Center; Safe Streets; Topeka H.S. Philosophy; the Cat Association and Let's Help.
Survivors include a brother, Martin "Marty" Bera.
Mr. Bera will lie in state between 3:00-5:00 p.m., Thurs., June 26 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 27, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
