Meta Esther Speerschneider, 90, of Topeka, passed away, Friday, September 23, 2005 at Lexington Park. She was born in Linwood, Kansas, the daughter of Leonard Carl Frederick and Jennie Gustava Newman Speerschneider.
She graduated in 1932 from Linwood Rural High School and attended Stricklers Business College in Topeka. Meta worked as a secretary at Kansas State University in Manhattan, from there she moved to Topeka where she worked as a secretary in the Provost Marshall office and the Veterans Administration Hospital until her retirement in 1978. She worked as a volunteer for the American Lung Association for five years.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she participated in the church choir.
She was preceded in death by, a sister, Ina Anderson, and a brother, Carl Speerschneider.
She is survived by a sister, Eileen Heller of Topeka; a nephew, Leonard Earl Heller and his wife Elizabeth, of Lexington, KY; a great nephew, Daniel Heller, of Lexington, KY; and a great niece, Sarah Heller, of Los Angeles, CA.
A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Faith Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Mount Sidney Cemetery in Linwood, Kansas.
Meta will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
