Mervin "Dee" Bowden, 87, Hoyt, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 6, 1924, in Admire, Kansas to Wesley Dow and Sarah Elizabeth (Smith) Bowden.
He graduated from Miller Rural High School in Miller, Kansas in 1943.
Dee was a supervisor at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, retiring after 38 ½ years. He was a member of the Rubber Workers Local 307 Union and the Top Ten Club. He was a member of Central Park Christian Church and a past member of Northland Christian Church, having served as an elder of both churches.
He married Wanda P. Wheat in Topeka on November 24, 1944; she preceded him in death in July 1976. He married Catherine Ann Morse in Topeka On May 5, 1978. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Virgil & Barbara Bowden, Randall Bowden, Deborah & James Keehn; step children, Sharon & Glenn Nierman, Kenneth & Nancy Morse, Robert & Alma Morse, and Georganne & Darryl Lovelace; one brother, Marvin Bowden; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Leon and three sisters, Beulah, Faye and Lorene.
Dee was beloved by many. He exhibited gentle, strong leadership in service to his Lord and family. He will be sorely missed.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 23, 2012, at Central Park Christian Church, 1535 SW Clay, Topeka, KS 66604 . A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Central Park Christian Church. Inurnment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
