Merton Dale Collie, 83, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. He was born November 25, 1932 in Jewell Co., KS, the son of Vernon and Nolene (Henry) Collie.
Dale graduated from Ionia High School. He was a Navy Veteran during the Korean War.
Dale was employed by the City of Topeka as a Police Officer for 30 years before retiring in 1983. He then served as Under Sheriff for Shawnee County for 8 years before retiring. He was a member of the Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene. Dale was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion and Philip-Billard Post # 1650, V.F.W.
Dale married Mildred A. "Millie" Carlson on December 2, 1955 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Jack (Leta) Collie of Topeka, Debbie (Fred) Heston of Derby, KS, 3 grandchildren, Adrienne Olejnik, Andrew Collie, Nicole Heston and 2 great-grandchildren, Grace and Reese Olejnik.
Dale was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kelsey Heston in 2010, and his two sisters, Maurine Johnston and June Green.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
Dale will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at the funeral home, SW 10th & Lane, Topeka, KS.
