Merle Prettyman

Merle Everett Prettyman, 85, Topeka, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004. He was born Oct. 12, 1918, in Plevna, and graduated from Plevna High School. On June 12, 1940, he married Arlene Ruth Holmes in Plevna. Mr. Prettyman was assistant superintendent of shops for the Santa Fe Railway. He was inducted into the Kansas Softball Hall of Fame and he was international horseshoe champion at the age of 12. He was a minister of Jehovah s Witnesses. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Joyce Slosson; a son, Steve Prettyman; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters. A Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kenwood Kingdom Hall of Jehovah s Witnesses, 4230 S.W. Gage Blvd. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Lexington Park Acute Care Facility, 1031 S.W. Fleming Court. Burial was in West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
