Merle J. Stambaugh

Merle J. Stambaugh, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born on February 28, 1918 in Valley Co., Montana, the son of John H. and Pearl Hines Stambaugh. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Merle was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad as an accountant for over 30 years before retiring in 1977. He was a member of a Masonic Lodge. He was active in Boy Scouts of America and various youth sports activities. Merle married Eileen M. Denslow in August of 1941 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Larry G. Stambaugh and wife, Pamela of San Diego, CA, Brent G. Stambaugh and wife, Helen of Las Cruces, NM, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one brother, Stan R. Stambaugh of Tuscon, AZ. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Garden Chapel at Topeka Cemetery. Burial will follow. Merle will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
