Melvina N. Long, 100, Topeka, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
She was born April 26, 1904 in Netawaka, the daughter of James Christian and Anna Marie Dorothy Peterson Nelson. She was raised in Netawaka and graduated from Netawaka High School. She came to Topeka with her parents in the mid 1920s.
She received a teachers certificate from Emporia State Teachers College, and later attended a business school in Topeka. She met and married her husband following graduation.
She lived in Kansas City, MO from about 1928 untill coming back to Topeka in 1960. Following her husbands death, she was very proud of the fact that she built four homes and remodeled three in Topeka. She was also very proud of her Danish heritage.
She married Charles A. Long on Aug. 17, 1927 in Topeka. He died in Feb., 1960. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Ann Mahan on Nov. 15, 2004.
Survivors include a son, Charles N. Long, Topeka; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday at Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.
