Melva R. Lane, 82, of Topeka, died Friday, March 11, 2005 at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka.
She was born January 4, 1923 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Hiram Davis and Bertha Rowena Bowman Sturm. Melva was a graduate of Topeka High School and attended Strickler's Business College.
She had worked as a medical transcriber retiring from the Colmery-O'Neil Veterans Administration Hospital.
Melva was a member of Beulah Chapter #34 Order of the Eastern Star, Philip Billard Post #1650 V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary, and the Business and Professional Women where she had served as president. She was a former member of North Topeka Baptist Church and currently a member of First Baptist Church.
She married Clarence C. Lane on Dec. 25, 1941 at North Topeka Baptist Church. He preceded her in death December 12, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter. Survivors include: two daughters, Rowena M. Fultz ,Topeka; Clara Petty , Big Bear, CA; two sons: Thomas Lane ,Siren WI ; Ronald Lane ,Lincoln, NE ; one sister, Doris Bogner, Topeka; nine grandchildren , one step grandchild, four step-great grandchildren, four great-grandchildren .
Funeral services wil be held 11:00am Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at the Rochester Cemetery. Mrs. Lane will lie in state after 12:00 noon Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
