Melva "Jean" Duffens, 84, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017. She was born February 7, 1933, in Grantville, KS, to Ora E. and Minnie C. Barrett.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert E. Duffens of Topeka, her brothers Raymond J. Barrett and Estus Earl Barrett (Jack), her sisters Lucille Watts and Darlene Smith.

Jean is survived by her brothers Ronald Barrett of Layton, UT and Larry Barrett of Old Orchard Beach, ME, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and step sons Gary Duffens ( Mary) of Highlands Ranch, CO, Greg Duffens (Jane) of Topeka, step daughter Carol Puckett ( Tom) of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Jean and Robert spent much of the last 30 years sharing time between Topeka and Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo, FL. Jean was an avid tennis player, golfer, and competitive bridge player. She also was a sports fan and enjoyed watching Royals baseball, KU basketball, and pro tennis.

Private entombment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family.
