Melissa Robertson (Shirk)

Melissa Marie Robertson (Shirk) passed away September 15, 2004 at her home in Topeka.
Melissa was born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 28, 1973 to Gary and Karen Robertson. The next year the family moved to Topeka, where Melissa grew up. She graduated from Topeka West High School in 1991. After attending Eastern Mennonite College in Virginia, she returned to Topeka to earn her degree in Social Work from Washburn University.
Melissa worked for several social services agencies in Topeka, including the Topeka Association for Retarded Citizens. Four years ago, Melissa began working for the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library in the Youth Services Department. She loved her job, and some of her very closest friends were her library co-workers. She also led story hour at The Toy Store of Topeka.
Melissa leaves her daughter Stormy, her parents; her brother Cody; her sister and brother in law, Jennifer and Rod Inman; nieces Hannah and Haileigh Inman, and nephew Miles Inman. Her grandparents are Jayne and Garrett Robertson of Overland Park, and the late Bob and Betty Keiser. Melissa also leaves her aunts and uncles, Kris and Oliver Becker and Kathy and Mark Van Auken, and cousins Kurt and Brett Becker and Manda, Doug, and Dara Van Auken.
Melissa will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church. Cremation will follow the service. Private inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Melissa's Memorial Fund For Stormy, c/o Kansas Super Chief Credit Union, 2015 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, Ks 66604.
