Maxine R. Stormer, 86, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2008 at a Topeka care facility. She was born on August 22, 1921 in Kankakee, IL, the daughter of Edward and Ruth Stewart Dufrain. She graduated from Kankakee High School and moved to Topeka in 1951. She was employed by J.C. Penney Co. for 20 years before retiring in 1984. She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Circle Group. Maxine married Louis H. Stormer on April 20, 1946 in Kankakee, IL. He preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Wilbur "Bud" Dufrain in 2004 and one sister, Doris Keller in 1961. Survivors include one daughter, Linda L. Roth and husband, Tony of Topeka, one son, Michael L. Stormer and wife, Carol of Topeka, four grandchildren, David and wife, Jamie, Robyn, Andrew, Matthew, one great-grandson, Logan and two brothers, Donald Dufrain of Kankakee, IL and Delbert Dufrain of Stone Lake, WI. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Burial will follow. Maxine will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 N.W.
