Max E. Decker

Max E. Decker, 83, of Topeka, died Monday, October 11, 2004 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born on April 10, 1921 in Manhattan, Ks. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1939. After serving in the Navy during WWII, he was married to Dell Hales. They were later divorced. He was a golf professional at country clubs in Manhattan, Emporia, Salina and Abilene. He then worked at Topeka Country Club from 1951 until his retirement in 1979. He was a life member of PGA of America. Max is survived by his wife, Donna Grimes Decker, his daughter, Carol Courtney, grandson Blake Courtney and Elizabeth, and granddaughter, Devon Courtney. Other survivors are step-daughters, Carolyn Platt and her husband, John,; Janet Grimes, and Becky Clarke and her husband Jeff,; step-grandchildren, Lisa and Jeremy Platt and Hannah, Rachel and Ian Clarke. Mr. Decker was cremated. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Chapel Mausoleum. Inurnment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the PGA Financial Scholarship Fund or the PGA Disaster Relief Fund at PGA of America, 100 Avenue of the Champions, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. 33418. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
