Max L. Bolton, 87, passed away Oct. 15, 2008 at Midland Hospice House. He was born Dec. 10, 1920 in Ottawa to Chester and Alma Bolton.
Max was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the European Theater as a gunner with the 161st Field Artillery B Battery. He was a police officer in Ottawa for eleven years and then moved to Topeka where he worked in law enforcement for the State of Kansas until his retirement for health reasons in 1982. Max married Ruth Morrow of Emporia on Oct. 28, 1977. He was a member of the Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene, V.F.W. Post 1650, American Legion Capital Post #1 and the V.A. Stroke Group.
Max is survived by his wife Ruth; two sons, Scott Bolton of Topeka and Steve Bolton of Lawrence; three step-daughters, Kathleen Conroy of Topeka, Cynthia Harrington of Guymon, OK and Mitzy Remington of Kansas City, MO; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Norma and three sons, Jerry, Corky and Danny Bolton.
Memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m., Mon., Oct. 20 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Private family burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Max will lie in-state after 5:00 p.m. on Sun., Oct. 19 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions maybe sent to Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene, 730 S.W.
