Maurine Harbaugh

Maurine Venetta Matthaei Harbaugh, 86, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at a Topeka Hospital. She was born October 26, 1917, at McCracken, KS. Maurine was a caring person who devoted her entire life to her family, and she will be remembered for the kindness she showed to all her family and friends. She was an avid gardener who spent many hours tending her greenhouse and flower garden. Maurine was a member of Central Congregational Church for over 50 years. She married Lewis Kenneth Harbaugh on June 18, 1939. He preceded her in death October 17, 1961. She was also preceded in death by her two sons, Terry and Vance Harbaugh; her daughter, Nylla Harbaugh; a brother Paul Matthaei; and a sister, Muriel Michael.

Surviving children are Joyce Harbaugh of Topeka; Lonna Reinecke and her husband John of Starkville, MS; Randy Harbaugh and his wife Cheryl of Laurel, MD; Brent Harbaugh and his wife Peggie of Bradenton, FL; and Arlen Harbaugh and his wife Lorraine of Reston, VA. Other survivors include a sister, Lois Wedel and her husband Marvin of Newton, KS.

Maurine is also survived by her granddaughters Amber Reinecke Wadley, Lisa Harbaugh Eaves, Jacquelyn Berardi, Fran Hoppe, and Joy Harbaugh. Maurine's surviving grandsons include Vincent Reinecke, Daren Harbaugh, Bryant Harbaugh, Vance Harbaugh, Jay Harbaugh, Kevin Harbaugh, and Kenneth Harbaugh. There are also nine great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, surviving.

Mrs. Harbaugh will lie in state Friday, April 9, 2004, from noon until 9:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town, 1321 SW 10th St., Topeka, KS 66604. The funeral will be held Saturday, April 10, 2004 at 11:00 am at the funeral home chapel; interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Maurine's name to Doorstep, Inc. or the Topeka Rescue Mission and sent in care of the funeral home.
