Maurice Weckerling, Jr.
Maurice "John" Weckerling, Jr., 61, passed away, June 11, 2008 at his home. He was born March 3, 1947 in Manhattan, KS, to Maurice J. Weckerling, Sr. and Wilma (Thompson) Weckerling.
John graduated from Satanta High School in 1965 and in 1970 he graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970-1991, enjoying his tours in Thailand and West Germany. On September 4, 1974 he married Lot Hongsoongnerg in Ubon, Thailand. He was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church. John worked as an IT Manager for the Kansas State Fire Marshall Office for 16 years. He enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include; his parents; his wife; two sons, James and William; a daughter Jennilon Vaughn; a sister, Susan O'Neill; and three grandchildren, Micah and Jett Vaughn, and Sasha Medrano.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 14, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Memorial contributions in John's name may be made to The American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd, Topeka, KS 66604 or Heartland Hospice, 1033 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS 66604.
