A.Maureen Stelzner, 93, Topeka, passed away on December 27, 2012 at Stormont-Vail Healthcare, Topeka. She was born in Topeka on August 3, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Ida (McCord) Bailey.
Maureen grew up in Topeka then after graduating from High School, attended cosmetology school, earning her certificate as a beautician and began her career in Topeka. She later became involved in retail sales, spending many years at Vivian's Gift Shop also in Topeka.
Maureen married her sweetheart, Richard Stelzner, on March 7, 1942. The couple made their home in Topeka raising their family. Maureens husband Richard passed away on August 28, 1983.
Mrs. Stelzner loved bowling, and continued with her enthusiasm for the lanes until she was almost 80.
Painting was another enjoyment for Maureen, as she had painted many beautiful creations.
She also was a lifelong member of Central Church of Christ, teaching kindergarten Sunday school at the church for 40 years.
Mrs. Stelzner is survived by; her children Susan (Aaron) Wheatley and Rich (Missy) Stelzner of Topeka, her grandchildren, Melissa Wheatley, Joplin, MO, Kiefer Stelzner, Bill (Tara) Wheatley, and Erin (Keith) Hill, of Texas. Also surviving are her great-grandsons; Aaron, Camden, Brayden, Karson, and Jake.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 31, 2012 at Penwell-Gable Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th, Topeka. A private burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery will take place at a later date.
Mrs. Stelzner will lie in repose at the funeral home after noon on Saturday, with a family visitation planned on Sunday, December 30, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM also at the funeral home.
